Photo Shows:
Youngest Daughter: Arimalala Nambina, 2 years old, Unilateral Cleft lip, Before.
Photographed at home 3 hours walk from the nearest hospital at Anivorano Est where their parents can find information about Operation Smile and find transport to the mission in Tamatave. They were aware of Operation Smile’s 2013 mission to Antananarivo but did not have the money to get there. They have never been to Tamatave where Operation Smile’s 2014 mission will take place. The distance from their home to Tamatave is approximately 155 miles and the journey will take them 8 hours.
Vaviroa (6) has never been to school because her parents worry that the other children will tease her. They live in a small hamlet accessible by single path over rough terrain. The nearest village is Ambodijania. Mother and Father work as subsistence farmers, mainly growing rice. Occasionally the father Dest works in a neighbour’s field for which he earns 3000 ariarys ($1.20) per day.
North East of Anivorana Est, Near Brickaville. Madagascar.
29h August 2014.
