• Today I came here because of this funeral. I am not feeling well because I am too old. My legs are very very painful but I have decided to come because of this day.

I fell very proud about Mr Mandela that is why I am here today. Mr Mandela helped my children they usually go to his place and they get something for Christmas parties and everything.

I love him so much, even if I did not see him. I love Mandela so much because I am getting a social grant because of Mr Mandela. I am very proud of Mr Mandela.
• I am here to thank Mandela for a job well done, which he has accomplished for the entire world, and also to bring us together as we are now. He is a very good example for African leaders to follow if they can be unselfish and put the people first.

Mandela is an icon, Mandela is a father, Mandela means inspiration, he is a legacy to follow, he will remain in our heart forever, and he will never be forgotten. Mandela is compared to the sprit of peace, the sprit of reconciliation, the sprit of Unbuntu, Mandela means a refreshment of our heart.
• Mandela means a lot to me because when he went out for the community he told us that we must educate our children and also we must get jobs for ourselves. Mandela left his grandson Mandla Mandela who is now the ruling chief of this area and we have got trained for the work that we are doing locally. And now everyone has qualifications and we are looking for jobs with qualifications that we have been trained for. So all the people now have something in their hands. They do well in this area. Mandela he worked hard for us. Thank you god for having a man like Mandela especially in Mveso as this was a poor area.

Mandela to me, he means a paragon of virtue. That’s all I can say about Mandela.

The era of Nelson Mandela was an era of political reconciliation but in South Africa we have not come together with social reconciliation. There are racial tensions in South Africa both politically and socially. This country needs good leadership. We need to collectively come together and iron out our political differences and build a solid rainbow nation.
• I walked from Sasolburg at one o’clock today. Since the day Mr Mandela has been sleeping I have been so worried about him. Because Mr Mandela he is one of our fathers who relieved us, who saved our lives. When I remember that I was under oppression of the apartheid in Free State. .....
Mr Mandela, Tata Rolihlahla ... in my heart he is one of making everything to be ... He is the councillor. He is the councillor to me. He looks like a doctor to me. He looks like medicine. He is healing. Because if there is something that is not nice and the people are fighting he just come cool and he make that fight gone. And if you have a problem in life ... he is like food to you. He is everything to our life that is why we are here today; to say thanks Tata, sleep well. Where ever you are going do not forget us. Tell god about us, you know where you left us. ... We are looking for people to become like you. More especially young children that are growing up now. They must look after what you have been doing before and they must follow.
This is country where we love one another. You can see the outpouring of grief for this man. We must learn from his example. There is too much greed in our country today there us too much crime. There is too much posturing to be something where he was just an ordinary man. He taught us no matter how great you are you is just an ordinary man.
I am feeling very bad now because I did not see him. I wanted to see him and talk to him and tell him what god said to me about him since he was in jail. I am still crying now. I wanted to see him and lay hands on top of him which I did not do. But I managed to come to his place in Mveso and Mandla one of his grandson who is chief now, he helped me a lot to allow me to come ... and bring the prayer to his place and prey for him. I was busy organising a national prayer for the whole churches and national to come. I feel bad because I did not do that work, to say thank you Mandela. What he did for us, we thank good because he was in jail for a long time. For the whole world, not for only South Africa for the whole world. • In Madiba’s life I have learnt something; forgiveness wins everything. He pushed this sprit of forgiveness and he put it into practice. Yesterday they turned us away from we were waiting to come and see him. What I learned today is patience and perseverance. We stayed there and we were singing a song that says ‘We have never seen Mandela, Where is he?’ Then as we were singing not fighting they said you can come in and see Mandela. So I have learnt that if you forgive you will make it in life and if you know what you what you must persevere.
• Mr Mandela, Tata Rolihlahla ... in my heart he is one of making everything to be ... He is the councillor. He is the councillor to me. He looks like a doctor to me. He looks like medicine. He is healing. Because if there is something that is not nice and the people are fighting he just come cool and he make that fight gone.
• I don’t know how to express it but its a sad and happy feeling for us South African’s because he has freed us from oppression by white people and after freeing us he didn’t say you are white, you are black. He joined us and we became one. We are celebrating his life, we celebrating the freedom and his spirit will live forever in our hearts and I came here to say good-bye Tata and we will always love you.

When I say Mandela I feel so happy. I feel like... He freed us. He is my leader. He is my father.
